Saturday, April 14. This turned out to be a great ride.
Prospective members Ken and Joan Stewart were first to arrive at our place in St. Francisville. Ken rides a Suzuki GSXR1000 and Joan rides a BMW 1100. Henry Pretus rode up from Baton Rouge on his Honda CBR1000 accompanied by Bobby and Jake on their Harley. Bobby and Jake are past LA HSTA members from the early days and now live in Poplarville, MS. Tony Crowell who was on his way back from a trip to Mena, AR met our group at Rocky Springs, MS on his Honda ST1300.
After lunch we headed back down the Trace and stopped at the Sunken Trace historic area to learn some history. The historic stops all along the Trace really are quite interesting and the whole area has a natural beauty that I find very relaxing and enjoyable
After that stop Henry, Bobby and Jake headed home as Henry had hospital duty that evening. The rest of us let Ken lead us on a side trip down Highway 552 at Port Gibson, a very nice twisty loop that was an exhilarating change from the slow pace of the Trace! It is always a hoot to see how close the cylindar heads on a BMW boxer get to the pavement when ridden swiftly on a twisty road.
Its time to ride the West side of the River again. We will MEET AT STARBUCK'S at Energy Plaza (Corporate Blvd) in BATON ROUGE AT 8:30. Side stands up at 9:00 and we will cross the river either at the Plaquemines Ferry or the Sunshine bridge and make our way to a restuarant to be selected by the group. Possibilities include B & C Seafood, Oak Alley, Joe Drefus, Camille's, Catahoula's and Satterfield's. Most of these we have tried before and all were great. The list is wide open and suggestions are welcomed. Watch the members only area of the web site for updates and I will send an email reminder during the week before
The HSTA has blocked out 40 rooms at the Knights Inn in Mansfield, OH. there may be some rooms still available. PHONE: 419-529-2100; 800-843-5644; Fax: 419-529-6679. LOCATION: 555 N Trimble Rd; Mansfield, Ohio 44906. This is not a club ride but I (me, Bob) have reservations at the Knights Inn in Mansfield Ohio and would welcome any who want to ride along. This is at least a 940 mile trip one way so it will take two days to get there. If anyone is interested get in touch with me.
Suzuki and Kawaski have been kicking Honda butt ever since since Duhamel won round one at Daytona Beach on the RC51. As of today the points race is pretty interesting, with some luck the championship may come down to the last race at the new Barber track!. There will undoubtable be HSTA members attending from all over. If you are interested in making this trip let me know. We are working on some lodging details, stay tuned.REPEATING FROM LAST NEWSLETTER: We will pick a motel and plan a route. Birmingham is only about 425 miles from the Baton Rouge area. A group from here can here can plan a route via Meridian, MS and rendezvous with groups from North Louisiana and the New Orleans area in Brookhaven or Meridian.
